Representatives from Doncaster Chamber recently met with local businesspeople, Rosie Winterton MP and Jo Miller (CEO of DMBC) to discuss the good work that the Chamber is currently doing to facilitate business engagement in schools and to enhance the employability skills of Doncaster’s young people.
The Chamber is currently working with around half of Doncaster’s secondary schools to better connect them with local businesses and to ensure that Doncaster’s young people are better advised about the careers opportunities available to them in Doncaster. Additionally, Chamber staff are working with the town’s learners to help them better understand what SME employers are looking for when they recruit young staff. The Chamber has aspirations to work with every secondary school in Doncaster from January 2014 onwards and will soon be announcing exciting developments in this arena.
Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton said: “Small businesses are the driving force behind future jobs and growth. They now account for more than half of the economy and most new jobs in the next 15 years, many of which will go to young people.”
A new film, has been produced to be shown around schools, titled 'Doncaster. Alive with Opportunities'. It can be seen here.
