Join Jenny Holmes, DMBC, key stakeholders and other business leaders to discuss Doncaster's plan to become an university city, the benefits to the business community and how to be involved.

We will be discussing:

a) Do you agree with the ambition set out for Doncaster to become a university town/city?

b) How can we join up Doncaster's existing skills and education assets including Doncaster College,  National College for High Speed Rail and Teaching hospitals and involve others, in particular the business community, to shape up an expanded education offer?

c) What would be the key characteristics and benefits of a ‘university town’ for the business community?

Jenny and stakeholders are looking to have constructive conversations, business engagement, ideas, and energy to work with them and influence key decision-makers to make this plan a reality.

Please arrive just before 8.00am to help yourself to a light breakfast and be ready to start the discussion  just after 8:00am.

Spaces are limited to one person per business.

Background info

The Independent Commission on Education and Skills in Doncaster (Oct 2016) concluded that ‘Team Doncaster’ is well placed to capitalise on academic, government and business partnerships to expand higher level skills education provision in Doncaster swiftly and on a significant scale.

Whilst recognising there is already high quality and diverse Higher Education in the borough it was felt that this is not the same as being recognised as a ‘university town’.

Doncaster is one of the Government’s Social Mobility Opportunity Areas with an action plan that commits to ensuring that no career should be out of bounds and that support should be available  for Doncaster’s young people to find the right academic and vocational routes for the careers they aspire to.

At this critical juncture, how can we join up our existing assets including Doncaster College,  National College for  High Speed Rail and Teaching hospitals and involve others, in particular the business community, to shape up an expanded offer and what would be the key characteristics and benefits of a ‘university town’ for the business community?
