Executive Director, Doncaster Racecourse
Tim Banfield is the Executive Director of the Group 1 Doncaster Racecourse home to the St Leger Festival having taken the opportunity to join the company in 2016. In this role Tim is responsible for the management of the racecourse, overseeing the delivering and launch of the new Hilton Garden Inn and ensuring the St Leger Festival continues to be the showcase Doncaster can be proud of. The new hotel will see a near doubling of the full time team and create an opportunity for Doncaster to compete in the high value residential conference market.
Tim has 30 years of venue management experience having worked at the NEC in Birmingham, SECC in Glasgow and ACC Liverpool having opened the Echo Arena as its General Manager in 2008 for the European Capital of Culture celebrations. The Echo Arena established itself as one of the UK leading Arena’s playing host to over 100 events per year including concerts by Sir Paul Macartney, Oasis, Coldplay, Beyonce as well as major events such as the MTV Europe Music Awards and Liverpool International Horse Show.
Prior to joining Doncaster Racecourse Tim was Commercial Director at ACC Liverpool responsible for growing major events and conferences into Liverpool as well as delivering the business plan for the new Liverpool Exhibition Centre. In this position Tim played a central role in creating Liverpool’s international conference bidding vehicle Club Liverpool as well as leading the City’s drive for major events such as Sports Personality of the Year, Netball World Cup and the Clothes Show. Sitting on Marketing Liverpool’s advisory board Tim was part of the team responsible for Liverpool’s tourism strategy to drive both leisure and tourism growth that saw hotel rooms in the City double.
